Improve Quality Life of Pak-Afghan Trans-bordering Communities (PATRIP-Foundation)

Balochistan Rural Support (BRSP) with the financial support of PATRIP Foundation is implementing rehabilitation or construction of social and economic infrastructure in cross border and close border districts of Balochistan; Zhob, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Quetta, Killa Saifullah and Noshki districts. The overall goal of the program is to facilitate economic opportunities and lay a foundation for future cross-border or close border trade and cooperation in order to bring peace, harmony and contribute to stabilization in the region. The Program will provide increased economic opportunities in these bordering areas and encourage market linkages and improved economic services. This will benefit the local inhabitants through cross border social and economic activities generated in result of infrastructure developed and improved in the target district hence improving the living conditions of the rural population and would lead to overall stabilization of region.

There are three major components focused under phase III of the program, namely, health, youth & WATSAN.

The inception phase of phase and ground work has been completed. Human and material resources were mobilized, staff was oriented on project outputs and desired outcome.

The baseline survey of youth & health components conducted that will help establish benchmark before interventions and make basis for project evaluation at the end. To take Govt. on board and ensure ownership a series of coordination meetings with concerned Govt. departments held which successfully resulted in signing MoU. Ensuring Community participation & ownership through social mobilization is the hallmark of BRSP any interventions, therefore, community & village organizations (COs/VOs) have been formed in target areas and among them Community Resource Persons (CRPs) selected and trained on managerial capacity. These CRPs main task is to strengthen mobilization process at village level and assess infrastructure work for security, ensure proper warehouse to vendor, day to day business and conflict resolution and lead Community Organization as vital role in monitoring the infrastructure work to gauge the quality and quantity of work.

Under health component the needs assessments of target health facilities for medical equipment, furniture, fixture particularly for electrification has been conducted. Similarly, 04 village health committees (VHCs) were elected through democratic process in target health facilities by COs/VOs. In addition, Community Gate Keepers (CGKs) have been identified and oriented and their envisaged roles. The community members including married women, married men youth and adolescents have also been given awareness & sensitization sessions on RH and other health related issues its importance on individual’s health. To provide quality services delivery, capacity building of traditional Birth Attendants, Lady Health Workers and Health Care Providers is one the main focused areas, hence, TBAs have been trained on safe delivery practices and danger sign and symptoms of pregnancy which will later increase clients’ referral to health facilities, overcome birth related complications and reduce maternal mortality.

In order to gain community ownership and devotion Social Mobilization Team (SMT) of each district facilitate and support the youth organizations/ association/ academies of the district Noshki & Qilla Abdullah (Chaman) in the formation of Youth Lead Group (YLG), the main purpose of the YLG is to provide a platform for the youth organization to work collectively for youth development activities and operation of Youth Sport & Learning Center (YSLC) located at Government Degree College, Nushki and Government Degree College, Chaman.

The process for identification of potential community gatekeepers has been completed at district level.

The identification & selection process of all schemes of three components including three CPI schemes have been accomplished and for civil work the design, BoQs and tendering process is also completed & civil work of the schemes are under progress.
