Physical Infrastructure & Technology Development
Background
Balochistan is one of the vast provinces geographically 43 % of the country and it is a rich area in natural resources. The total area of Balochistan is 34790 sq/km. Its biodiversity is also contains coastal belt, mountains, arid zone, plain ground, wild life and desert. Balochistan is ethnically a very diverse province. Geographically, the province is scattered and has predominantly bellies a rural population with narrow resource base and limited productive sector. This makes the development initiatives even more challenging. With its lowest social indicators, Balochistan remains the poorest province in Pakistan ranking lowest on the Human Development Index which is 0.499 (HDR) . The province is largely dependent on the federal government and foreign donors for financial support for its annual development programs. Lack of physical infrastructure hampers efforts to extend social services throughout the province; the scattered nature of the population results in high cost per unit; and while the low income levels limit the viability of imposing user charge for social services.
