Local Support Organization (LSO) Gindar (Mastung) wins first prize at the Second Convention of Confederation of COs held in Islamabad on December, 11-12, 2009

Second Convention of the Confederation of the RSPs supported Community Organizations (COs) was organized by the Rural Support Program Network (RSPN) in Islamabad on December, 11 & 12, 2009. In the programme 80 LSOs from all over Pakistan participated and shared their presentations based on their contribution for the cause of poverty reduction and rural development in their own vicinities. Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Mr. Kamar Zaman Kaira was the Chief guest of the closing ceremony in which awards along with cash prizes were distributed among the first, second & third position LSOs. LSO Gindar form Mastung, Balochistan was declared first and was awarded a shield along with cash prize of Rs. 500,000/. The award was received by Ms. Abdia, President of the LSO.

Representatives from various RSPs, NGOs, INGOs, & UN department with around 300 participants were present to witness the working of Local Support Organizations came from all over Pakistan. Mr. Muhammad Ismail Qureshi, Federal Secretary for Establishment Department was the guest of honor on the occasion. During his speech on the first day of opening ceremony; he expressed his views on the contribution and achievements of Rural Support Programmes in Pakistan for the cause of poverty. He applauded the efforts carried out by RSPs for poverty reduction in the rural areas of Pakistan. The Guest of honor said that this would never have been possible without the dynamic, charismatic leadership and untiring efforts of Shoaib Sultan khan.

After the opening remarks by the guest of honor Mr. Shoaib Sultan Khan, Chairman RSPN thanked him for his acknowledgement and for sparing precious time out of his busy schedule.

Ms. Abdia told the forum that despite of several hurdles including the thinly populated area and difficult terrain with limited and unfavorable environment for the women in her area they were eventually succeeded to form women LSO which in itself is a major achievement considering the peculiar and disadvantageous environment of Balochistan . She further briefed the forum about their plans, activities and endeavors for organizing the women of the area and their self-help work for poverty reduction in the areas of health, education, cultural heritage, livestock and awareness raising regarding rights and obligations of women in a society.

The whole forum applauded the achievements of the LSO and afterwards casted their votes for rating the best LSO they consider. LSO Gindar got most of the votes and won by a huge margin.

This is a big achievement for the LSO, BRSP and the whole women of Balochistan for their hard work, commitment and zeal in order to improve their and their families’ living standards.
