BRSP distributes 50,000 Al-Nahyan food packs to the flood affected population of Ziarat, Pishin and Harnai

Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP), with the support of Govt. of Balochistan, has distributed 500,000 food packages to the earthquake affected population of Ziarat, Pishin and Harnai. Recently, Government of Balochistan asked BRSP to distribute 50,000 food packs generously donated by Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan of UAE for the earthquake affected population of Balochistan. Each pack of food items contained wheat flour 20 kgs, Sugar 5 kgs, dry milk 1 kgs, tea black 500 grams, match box one packet and cooking oil 5 kgs.

It was one of the huge operations in Balochistan for emergency with a short timeframe of 17 days (8 Jan to 24 Jan. 2008) for implementation. BRSP constituted 17 teams based on geographical clustering of the target areas. In order to cope with the huge task of food distribution in a limited time period, BRSP formed Distribution Committees in every target village with the consultation of the respective communities. These committees were responsible to assist BRSP staff in the registration of beneficiaries, distribution of coupons and arranging transportations and volunteers to take the rations from the distribution points and then distribute it in the beneficiaries.

The transportation for carrying food packages to the target villages was fully managed by communities themselves. UN logistics cluster facilitated BRSP through the provision of their rub halls in 12 different locations for storage and distribution of food stuff.
